Segerstrom Center for the Arts Presents Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo COPPEL-i.A.
01.29.24
The Segerstrom Center for the Arts is delighted to present Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo as they perform "Coppél-i.A." for a series of five captivating performances from March 7th to March 10th, 2024. Marking their triumphant return to Southern California, Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo will showcase Jean-Christophe Maillot's groundbreaking creation, "Coppél-i.A.," which breathes new life into the realm of storytelling.
In this reimagined romantic masterpiece, the Company's Choreographer-Director ingeniously weaves an original musical score, delving into the profound impact of artificial intelligence on our contemporary society. It explores the profound question of what it means to seek the perfect partner in our increasingly technologically advanced world, a theme that has gained even more relevance since the ballet's debut on December 27th, 2019, at the Grimaldi Forum Monaco.
"Coppél-i.A." transports its audience into a not-so-distant future where two young lovers, Frantz and Swanhilda, find their lives disrupted by the presence of an artificial being. This disruption shakes the very foundations of their existence and challenges their preconceived notions of love. The ballet raises the pivotal question of whether the ideal partner is the familiar flesh-and-blood companion or an abstract entity that questions our place within the human species. By reinterpreting "Coppél-i.A." in the context of artificial intelligence, Jean-Christophe Maillot presents an awe-inspiring and visionary take on this timeless classic.
Ticket prices begin at $39 and can be purchased conveniently online at scfta.org, in person at 600 Town Center Drive, Costa Mesa, or by contacting (714) 556-2787 by phone. For inquiries regarding group ticket discounts for groups of 10 or more, please reach out to the Group Services offices at (714) 755-0236.
