Scratch Restaurants Group Retains Michelin Star for Pasta|Bar Los Angeles
08.07.23
Los Angeles-based Scratch Restaurants Group, led by Executive Chef Phillip Frankland Lee and Pastry Chef Margarita Kallas-Lee, proudly announces the retention of their coveted Michelin star for Pasta|Bar Los Angeles. This marks the third consecutive year the restaurant has received this prestigious recognition, following the recent 2023 Michelin California announcement.
Pasta|Bar's 12-course tasting menu, served three times a night, is a celebration of fresh pasta inspired by the diverse flavors of Los Angeles, expertly combined with culinary techniques from Italy. Indulgent and opulent wine pairings enhance the dining experience.
The Lees' commitment to sourcing the highest-quality ingredients and maintaining a "from scratch" philosophy has contributed to their continued success. In addition to the ongoing success of Pasta|Bar, the Scratch Restaurants concept Sushi by Scratch Restaurants is expanding nationwide in 2023, with locations opening in Los Angeles, Chicago, and Montreal.
In December 2022, Pasta|Bar Los Angeles underwent a stunning renovation, resulting in a more elevated and refined setting that beautifully showcases the culinary artistry and technique behind each unique course and pairing. The Lees also teamed up with professional skateboarder Neen Williams to open NADC ("Not A Damn Chance") BURGER, a smashburger concept inside The Drop In bar in Chicago, which serves as the speakeasy entrance to Sushi by Scratch Restaurants.
Exciting developments continue in 2023, with the launch of a pop-up of Sushi by Scratch Restaurants at the Beverly Wilshire, A Four Seasons Hotel, in August-October. Another Sushi by Scratch Restaurants location is set to open in California later this fall.
Pasta|Bar will continue to offer specially curated dinner experiences with like-minded spirit and wine partners, including award-winning wine pioneer Emidio Pepe, known for their natural and manual methods in the vineyard and cellar, such as organic, biodynamic, and hand-harvesting efforts. Additionally, Sommelier Jennifer Shundo will introduce Pasta|Bar's rotating cello program, featuring seasonal cello liqueurs made in-house to complement the Lees' exquisite cuisine.
Scratch Restaurants Group's concepts are renowned for their highly curated tasting menus, intimate 10-seat tasting counters without servers, and a deep commitment to the artisanal "from scratch" approach to hospitality. The Michelin star is a testament to the exceptional quality, distinct flavors, and consistently high standards that define the ethos of Scratch concepts and the Lees themselves.
