Calaca Mamas Cantina Celebrates Mexican Independence Day
09.11.23
Anaheim's vibrant Day of the Dead-themed Mexican restaurant, Calaca Mamas Cantina, is gearing up to celebrate Mexican Independence Day on Saturday, September 16th, with a two-day festivity that kicks off on Friday, September 15th at 5 p.m. and continues through Saturday, September 16th. This family-owned establishment warmly invites guests to partake in the holiday festivities, featuring traditional music, delectable dishes, and an array of giveaways.
Mexican Independence Day commemorates Mexico's proclamation of independence from Spanish colonial rule in 1810. The celebrations traditionally commence on the evening of the 15th, paying homage to the courageous Catholic priest who rallied the people by ringing a bell and delivering the historic "Grito de Dolores" speech, calling for an end to Spanish dominance. Today, the holiday symbolizes the pride, determination, and valor of those who fought for Mexico's freedom. In keeping with tradition, Calaca Mamas Cantina intends to begin its Mexican Independence Day celebrations on Friday, September 15th, as a tribute to the "Shout of Dolores."
Starting at 5 p.m. on Friday and lasting all day on Saturday, Calaca Mamas Cantina will provide fifty fortunate diners with a purple envelope, each containing a mystery fortune and surprise. Inspired by the tradition of Chinese New Year red envelopes, these purple envelopes will contain an assortment of entertaining jokes and exclusive prizes, including vouchers for complimentary desserts and appetizers, cash prizes, and gift cards.
The total value of these prizes will amount to $1810, paying homage to the significant year of Mexico's declaration of independence in 1810.
Adding to the festivities, Calaca Mamas will host the beloved SoCal mariachi band, Trio Mariachi Capri, who will perform traditional music representative of the holiday on Friday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Calaca Mamas is open seven days a week from 11 a.m. to 1 a.m. Monday through Friday, and 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. The restaurant is adjacent to the Disneyland Resort, and is located at 1550 S. Harbor Blvd. Reservations can be made by calling (714) 215-4226.
