Cécile McLorin Salvant at Segerstrom Center for the Arts!
12.29.23
The Segerstrom Center for the Arts is excited to host GRAMMY®-winning jazz vocalist Cécile McLorin Salvant for two performances at the Samueli Theater. These shows are scheduled for Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM. Tickets, starting at $59, can be purchased at scfta.org. Salvant's performance will feature a rich mix of her original work and unique covers.
Describing Cécile McLorin Salvant merely as an award-winning jazz vocalist doesn't fully capture her essence. She is a multifaceted artist: a GRAMMY Award® winner, a nominee for Best Jazz Vocal Album this year, a singer, composer, visual artist, MacArthur Fellow, and recipient of the Doris Duke Artist Award. Salvant's career has soared since she won the Thelonious Monk competition in 2010, releasing five critically acclaimed albums, each more adventurous than the last.
Her approach to music combines historical awareness, dramatic flair, and a deep musical insight. Salvant's classical training and her influences from jazz, blues, folk, musical theater, and vaudeville allow her to explore a vast array of styles, expanding the scope of live jazz performance.
Her latest album, "Mélusine" (Nonesuch Records), is a testament to her versatility, blending five original songs with interpretations of nine tracks, some dating back to the twelfth century. Sung in French, Occitan, English, and Haitian Kreyòl, the album narrates the story of Mélusine, a European folkloric figure, first penned by Jean d’Arras in 1393.
Tickets for this event can be found online at scfta.org, or in person at The Box Office, located at 600 Town Center Drive, in Costa Mesa.
