Hot Dog! Foodbeast’s Summer Classic
07.29.13
Our friends at Foodbeast, the one-stop online source for all food news, are throwing an event in collaboration with Early Bird Cafe in Fullerton on Sunday, Aug. 4 from 5 to 9 p.m. that you won’t want to miss. The Foodbeast Summer Classic: Hot Dog Tasting & Eating Competition is a great chance for you to taste two specially crafted dogs from Early Bird and Hopscotch, and the only night to try the beloved California Picnic Dog that includes a chicken-fried ’Natural Casing All Beef Frank’ from MasterLink, with watermelon guacamole, homemade smoked ranch and cilantro topped with potato chip crumbles and served atop an OC Baking Company mini brioche roll with a side of Mexican street corn.
The event will have $5 tastings for local beer and multiple dogs including a mystery frank from Fullerton eatery/whiskey bar Hopscotch and will also feature the 7 Dogs of Danger Eating Competition.
Invitational contestants will have to complete 7 levels of hot dog danger. Unlike traditional hot dog eating competitions, contestants will have to eat the dogs as constructed and can win by consuming the following hot dogs back-to-back: Plain Dog, Mustard Dog, Chicago Dog, Coney Dog, LA Dog, Cali Picnic Dog & The Mystery Hopscotch Dog. Interested contestants can email geoff@foodbeast.com.
You can purchase tickets for dogs and beers for $5 at the door. Purchase 10 tickets for $40 or 20 tickets for $60.
Early Bird Cafe is at 1000 E. Bastunchury Road in Fullerton.
