11.20.18

At the age of 9, Matthew Morales of Fullerton has the strength and bravery of someone well beyond his years.  After being misdiagnosed three separate times in a span of two weeks, Matthew was diagnosed at four years old on Jan. 10 2014 with a rare form of childhood leukemia, B-Cell ALL Ph+. Once diagnosed, Doctors said he had hours left; Matthew spent six days in PICU before he could start treatment. After an intense 3-year treatment, most of which was inpatient, Matthew finished cancer-free in February 2017.

Sadly, Matthew relapsed July 10, 2017, at seven years old and due to the prior treatment given being the highest dose possible, his only option was a Bone Marrow Transplant. Matthew continues to be on a low dose oral gene inhibitor chemo for an unknown amount of time to keep Matthew cancer free. Matthew loves to laugh and is looking forward to someday soon returning to the in-classroom school experience and making friends. His hope and wish are that no child is diagnosed with cancer. To prepare Matthew for his future return to the classroom, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Orange County and the Inland Empire and Burlington Stores, surprised Matthew with a special treat.
