A Desert Escape in Tempe: Marriott Phoenix Resort Tempe at The Buttes Debuts Renovation

03.25.26

Tempe may not always top the list of Arizona getaways, but the vibrant city just outside Phoenix has quietly become one of the state’s hidden gems. Home to Arizona State University, Tempe blends youthful energy with year round outdoor recreation, dining and culture. It is also a favorite for spring break staycations and desert escapes.

The Marriott Phoenix Resort Tempe at The Buttes has completed a multimillion dollar renovation of its guestrooms and suites, fitness center, outdoor meeting space and the lobby bar’s expanded outdoor dining area.

Built into the dramatic Tempe Butte, the resort offers sweeping 180 degree views stretching from downtown Phoenix to the Superstition Mountains in Mesa. Cascading waterfalls, sparkling pools and striking desert sunsets create a setting that feels tucked away, even though the resort is just three miles from Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and minutes from Arizona State University, Scottsdale shopping and downtown Phoenix entertainment.

The resort is also a popular destination for Californians visiting during spring break and spring training, as the Los Angeles Angels’ spring training facility is located nearby.

Marriott Phoenix Resort Tempe at The Buttes features 353 newly renovated guestrooms and suites, including a presidential suite, chairman suite and seven studio rooms. Guestroom updates include new furnishings, lighting, artwork and technology enhancements. Rooms are designed with comfort and functionality in mind, offering cotton rich bedding, high speed Wi Fi, large workspaces, in room coffee bars, 55 inch televisions and multiple USB and USB C charging ports.

Dining and outdoor gathering spaces remain a highlight of the resort thanks to its elevated setting and expansive views. Top of the Rock, the resort’s signature restaurant, is known for its panoramic views of Phoenix, Tempe and Camelback Mountain, along with a menu created by a French chef that blends French technique with American flavors and subtle Southwestern influences.

The newly expanded On The Rocks patio at the lobby bar serves craft cocktails and a vibrant menu with views of downtown Tempe and the Twin Peaks Mountains. The Kachina Patio has also been expanded and can accommodate up to 250 guests, making it ideal for luncheons, cocktail receptions and evening events.

The fitness center has also been fully redesigned by Matrix Fitness and features updated cardiovascular equipment that connects to personal devices for streaming content.
