California Art Club’s 113th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition at the Hilbert Museum
08.16.24
The Hilbert Museum of California Art at Chapman University in Orange will feature the California Art Club’s 113th Annual Gold Medal Exhibition now through October 26, 2024, in the Sodaro South Galleries. As one of the world’s oldest and most active professional arts organizations, the California Art Club proudly presents nearly 180 works by 163 artists, showcasing their commitment to traditional techniques in painting, drawing, and sculpture.
Unlike most exhibitions, the Gold Medal Exhibition has no set theme, encouraging artists to push boundaries and create their most significant works. This year’s featured pieces highlight a range of modern issues, from environmental conservation to social commentary, all expressed through classical methods.
Visitors to the Hilbert Museum will not only experience these exceptional contemporary works but also see significant pieces from historic California Art Club artists, housed in the museum’s permanent collection.
Additionally, patrons have the unique opportunity to purchase the displayed artwork, with sold pieces marked by a red dot on the label—a rare chance to acquire world-class art directly from a museum setting.
Hilbert Museum of California Art is at 167 N. Atchison Street in Orange.

Mayor’s Table Unveils Mid-Summer Menu of Tableside Offerings
08.15.24
Mayor's Table, the signature restaurant of Lido House Hotel in Newport Beach, has introduced a new summer dinner menu featuring experiential and tableside offerings. This update represents the most significant menu change since the restaurant's launch in 2018.
The revamped menu, crafted by Chef-Partner Riley Huddleston, Executive Chef Jonathan de la Cruz, and Chef de Cuisine Nicholas Escobar, showcases a bold take on reimagined American cuisine with a focus on responsibly sourced produce from local fishermen and farmers.
The menu includes innovative shareable starters such as an elegant OC Onion Dip served with housemade pillow bread, and Petrossian Caviar Service featuring sherry-roasted banana puree topped with Petrossian caviar and banana blini on the side.
Tableside offerings include the impressive Charcoal-Grilled Tomahawk, a 48-ounce cut carved tableside and accompanied by the restaurant’s signature 72-hour steak sauce, and the aromatic Lido Chowder, with bacon broth siphoned over grilled seafood. Classic favorites like the Award-Winning Burger, featuring a half-pound wagyu patty, continue to delight. This burger has recently earned several ‘Best Burger’ awards from Riviera Magazine, the Orange County Register, Orange County Business Journal, and Visit Newport Beach.
The experiential aspect extends to the bar, where the Daily Ritual—a towering and aromatic batched cocktail—is prepared each day at 5 p.m. Group offerings include Lift the Mood, featuring four espresso martinis poured tableside from a smoke-filled vessel, and a Périgord truffle-infused Gold Fashioned with George Dickel x Leopold Bros. three-chamber rye and housemade bitters.
The "Dine Like a Mayor" prix-fixe menu offers a curated selection of starters, entrees, and desserts chosen daily by Huddleston. Mayor's Table is open daily for breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and also offers brunch on weekends. The restaurant features patios, a cozy fireplace lounge, a lively central bar area, and a 14-seat private dining Captain's Table.
3300 Newport Blvd., in Newport Beach.
