An Out of This World FUNdraiser at Chuck Jones Center for Creativity

Take part in a FUNdraiser for creativity at the Chuck Jones Center at SOCO + The OC Mix! This fun and impactful event is taking place on Sunday, October 13 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. and will benefit the programs of the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity – a nonprofit organization that serves school-age children, senior brain health, and children and young adults on the autism spectrum.
The Chuck Jones Big Draw event will be a space-tacular experience for families and will take place in a carnival-themed atmosphere focused on Outer Space Exploration and Planet X. Children and parents will be able to participate in a variety of different creativity stations throughout the center with the opportunity to create rocket banks, build a spaceship and helmet, and design + create Planet X creatures. Plus, children will even be able to make their very own cartoon using some of Chuck Jones’ favorite characters such as Marvin the Martian, Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, and 10,000 Martians.
This event is sure to bring out your family’s creative side and serves as a great way to spend quality time with loved ones while making a difference in the lives of others. Tickets for the Chuck Jones Big Draw event are $5 and include a “Mix-Your-Own” soft drink bar, fresh popcorn, and a decorate your own brownie station. Tickets can be purchased at hchuckjonescenter.org.

The Firebird at the Irvine Barclay Theatre

The Firebird performing on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 7 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 13 at 2 p.m. at Irvine Barclay Theatre is a spellbinding story of heroism and romance. Based on a Russian folk tale, The Firebird is a captivating tale of a magical glowing bird and a prince who enters an enchanted world.
Follow Prince Ivan and the Firebird as they join forces to break the evil spell of Kashchei, the wicked magician. Originally choreographed by Michel Fokine in 1910, this one-act ballet is set to the music of Igor Stravinsky. This production of The Firebird was choreographed for Festival Ballet Theatre by esteemed choreographer Nikolai Kabaniaev in 2010.
The performance will include excerpts from the Ballet Russes treasures:
Chopiniana: A ballet with no plot about a young poet in the world of the Sylphides was choreographed by Michel Fokine in 1908 to music by Frederic Chopin.
Frescoes: An excerpt from The Little Humpbacked Horse where the figures are brought to life from painted Frescoes was choreographed by Arthur Saint-Léon to music by Cesare Pugni.
Scheherazade: A piece based on the tales of the One Thousand and One Nights. Originally choreographed by Michel Fokine in 1910, to music by Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov. This piece was choreographed by Tara Ghassemieh Luiz & Vitor Luiz.
Tickets available at $35 – $45.
