Hoag Seeks Plasma Donors for COVID Patients

In partnership with the Southern California Blood Bank, Hoag is seeking volunteer plasma donations from individuals that have recovered from a COVID-19 infection. This plasma will be used as an FDA approved an investigational new treatment for seriously ill COVID-19 infected patients.
Donors need to meet the following criteria:
- You have had a positive test for COVID-19
- You can obtain a copy of your positive test result
- You are fully recovered from your COVID-19 infection
- You have been symptom-free for a minimum of 14 days
- You are otherwise in good health
If you meet the above criteria and are willing to donate plasma, please complete the Donor Survey. The information that provided will be held in strict confidence. Once your survey is completed, you may be contacted for additional information or to schedule a donation.
“Plasma from those who have fully recovered from COVID 19 (“Convalescent Plasma”) is a source of antibodies that can attack the virus causing acute disease in hospitalized patients. It was successfully used in China in small samples of individuals, and is being studied in the US at Hoag, the Mayo Clinic, and others. Donors are crucial to verifying its effectiveness. Hoag takes pride in offering the most advanced clinical research trials to our community, as we dare to provide incomparable care,” said Michael Brant-Zawadzki, M.D., Senior Physician Executive and the Ron and Sandi Simon Endowed Chair, Pickup Family Neurosciences Institute at Hoag.
