Segerstrom Center for the Arts-ABT Gillespie School 2020 Registration
08.18.20
The American Ballet Theatre William J. Gillespie School at Segerstrom Center for the Arts is enrolling students for the 2020 Fall semester beginning August 25. Classes will be a 14-week schedule from September 8 through December 19. In keeping with safe practice guidelines and mandates from the governor’s office and state and local departments of health, all classes will be live virtually.
The ABT Gillespie School introduced virtual learning classes in March 2020 and has adapted and strengthened its online teaching practices to provide quality experiences that are consistent with the ABT National Training Curriculum for which the school is noted. Some of the unique practices employed to maintain the quality of training include:
- Limited class sizes to ensure all students receive individualized faculty feedback.
- Continuation of live piano accompaniment at all levels.
- Students’ ability to un-mute to ask questions
,or otherwise communicate with faculty. - An ABT Gillespie School class administrator at all classes to coordinate between faculty and participants as well as providing real-time technical support.
- The “waiting room” feature to allow only ABT Gillespie students to enter each class.
- All classes password protected.
- Opportunities for weekly coaching, optional Saturday classes, virtual Meet-the-Artists with ABT personnel, wellness lectures, seminars, and more.
- Students will be encouraged to maintain friendships, share experiences, and discuss lessons by talking and messaging during breaks.
- Teachers will take time to chat with students before and after classes to create the essential community feeling we all miss so much.
Tuition will not be increased for the 2020 – 2021 school year. Payment plans are available with the option to extend monthly payments through March 15, 2021.
Acceptance into the ABT William J. Gillespie School Levels 1A and above (ages 8 - 18*) is by audition only. All prospective students must submit a video audition. Auditions are not required for students ages 3-7. Complete information regarding registration, tuition, the 20200 – 2021 class schedule, auditions and other important details is available on the Segerstrom Center website. Or email the school at ABTGillespieSchool@SCFTA.org.

StretchLab Expands in OC with New Irvine Location
08.18.20
As the majority of Orange County residents continue to work from home and have limited access to workout facilities, a unique new assisted stretching studio is expanding here, with StretchLab opening in Irvine’s Harvard Place Shopping Center. StretchLab offers one-on-one assisted stretching to increase range of motion and flexibility; reduce stress, muscle, and joint pain; improve sports performance; improve posture, and more.
At their first visit, clients will receive a personal assessment by StretchLab’s exclusive MAPS (Mobility, Activation, Posture and Symmetry) machine, using technology that scans their body and movement as they perform squats. Based on this evaluation, clients receive a customized stretching plan based on their personal needs.
The experienced staff are certified in physical therapy, kinesiology, and other health and wellness disciplines, as well as the additional StretchLab certification of Flexology training that the company provides.
StretchLab has an open and spacious studio and is following extensive safety guidelines, from performing temperature checks and requiring masks on employees and clients, to limiting appointments to two clients at a time in the 1,300 square foot studio.
StretchLab offers a variety of one-on-one personalized stretching services including a 25-minute stretch that concentrates on the client’s current stretching needs, as well as a 50-minute head-to-toe deep stretch that addresses all major muscle groups. In addition to one-on-one stretching services, small group classes will eventually be added when it’s safe to do so, in which a trained Flexologist™ will lead clients through a warm-up and sequence of stretches to address major muscle groups. Monthly memberships are available for four or eight visits per month, as well as drop-in stretches.
Open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday through Friday; 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.
The new StretchLab is in Harvard Place Shopping Center at 17585-B Harvard in Irvine, and can be reached at 949.346.2870.
