Free Dance and Music Classes for Children with Disabilities
10.31.16
Following the enthusiasm and success from last spring’s dance classes for children with disabilities, Segerstrom Center for the Arts will offer two additional sessions on Friday, Nov. 11. The classes are free and have been developed for children with special needs such as those who are visually impaired, have autism, cerebral palsy, Downs Syndrome or other complex needs.
The classes combine dance, movement and music with plenty of sensory experiences to ensure that children have fun while exercising and improving balance, coordination, and confidence through personal and social growth.
The 10 a.m. session will be for children 4-6 years of age and the 3:30 p.m. session will be for 7-12 year-olds. Both last 45 minutes to an hour in length and will be held in one of the Center’s dance studios. The teaching teams include an experienced dance teacher, a licensed physical or occupational therapist and a professional musician. The environment is relaxed and informal, so children should wear clothes that are comfortable for moving about. Each child must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, who will have this time to relax and enjoy class.
For more information about these workshops for children with disabilities, contact Susan Marie Kendall in the Center’s Community Engagement Department at smkendall@scfta.org or 714.556.2122, 4337.
Segerstrom Center for the Arts is at 600 Town Center Drive in Costa Mesa or by calling 714.556.2787.
