Wear to Where: Ask A Stylist
09.07.11
To make a seamless transition with fall fashion in Orange County you need a few essential pieces. This week we conclude our look into fall trends with a little question and answer session. I've told you about the handbag trends and which shoes you need; as well as fall’s textures, prints and what my favorite denim line is showing. But there is still some lingering questions from a few of my readers such as: investment pieces, color trends and the perfect summer to fall transnational wardrobe. So this week is ‘Ask your Stylist ‘ and these are my top three questions…
QUESTION: What's an investment piece that you would recommend for fall that can transition in to other seasons and that I can justify in this economy?
ANSWER: If you're looking for the perfect transitional piece of outerwear to take you from summer into fall and not break the bank, look no further than the cape. This style showed up on many of the fall 2011 runways, and the latest versions are really wearable for everyday – I love to toss one over a button-down shirt with relaxed jeans for the weekend; or pair one with a school-girl chic striped sweater and skirt for work. Then rock a dramatic cape with black leather leggings and edgy boots for a night out.
Q: I read somewhere that Honey Suckle is the color of the year; it doesn’t seem very fall-like. What are some other colors we should look for this fall?
A: While typical fall hues are dark and moody, the Fall 2011 Pantone Color report brought with it fabulous hues of golden yellows, muted blues, and warm pinks. Transitioning into these fall colors will be much easier as they are only a few tones darker and slightly more muted than most of your summer brights.
Q: Hot weather in Orange County seems to last into October, but the stores are filled with faux fur and wool in August. What are some great transitional pieces I can wear throughout the pre-fall heat and into winter?
A: Ahh the biannual dilemma….My favorite transition pieces are anything with stripes; it’s one of those trends that last throughout the year. Try them in dress form or even as a casual chic pull over. You can’t go wrong.
