Herbert Program for Young Adults with Type 1 Diabetes

12.03.14

Just in case you know any young adults (age 18-30 something) with Type 1 Diabetes, there’s a fantastic support and social group run through the Hoag Hospital Foundation in support of the Mary & Dick Allen Diabetes Center. It’s called the Herbert Program for Young Adults with Type 1 Diabetes.  Founded by a local mom, Lauri Delson, who has two daughters with type 1 diabetes; she wanted a resource for those who needed help with issues that they struggle with.

Lauri started the Herbert Program to address the financial, psychological, social and physical changes that challenge not only the young adult, but also their spouses, friends, siblings, entire family and support system. The program offers social events, peer interactions, counseling, and education, and incorporates nutrition therapy, and pump and meter training that the Allen Diabetes Center already offers.

Their First Fridays social event is happening at Bowlmor at the District in Tustin on Friday, Dec. 5 at 6:30 p.m. They offer free drinks and apps and encourage people to bring a friend along.

For more information on the Herbert Program and how to connect with other young adults with type 1 diabetes, you can join them on Facebook, or find out more about events contact Caphy Lee at 949.764.8065 or Caphy.lee@hoag.org.
