Line-up for Sandwiches at The Trough

From the same group who brought us the Blind Pig Kitchen + Bar restaurant and the Trough Sandwich Kitchen on the picturesque Lago Santa Margarita in Rancho Santa Margarita comes their first foray into Newport Beach: The Trough Sandwich Kitchen on the Balboa Peninsula, just steps from the beach, Balboa Pier, boardwalk and the Fun Zone.

The super casual Trough Sandwich Kitchen in Newport Beach just opened and is serving breakfast all day, as well as lunch and dinner created by Executive Chef Karl Pfleider.

With six cold sandwiches and eleven hot sandwiches to choose from all served on OC Baking Company breads; as well as breakfast plates such as burritos with egg, homemade taters, cheddar cheese, and pico de gallo wrapped in a flour tortilla, or French toast and waffles. Delicious sides to go perfectly with a sandwich include onion rings, chili cheese tots, and pickled eggs. All sauces and dressings are made in-house, from scratch.

Favorites from the cold sandwich selections include the turkey club; tuna salad with pickled celery, dried cranberry, roasted almond, tomato, arugula, red onion on a multi grain roll; and a cold cut sandwich with lettuce, tomato, red onion, jalapeno vinaigrette, Swiss cheese, housemade Kewpie mayo, and cornmeal roll.

Our favorite hot sandwiches include the California Cowboy with chicken, bacon, lettuce, tomato and sourdough; the chashu pork sandwich with marinated boiled egg, arugula, housemade kewpie mayo, and pickled ginger on a corn roll; and the spaghetti sandwich with bolognese, parmesan, and garlic/herb butter on a corn roll.

Open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. daily.

Broadway Season Preview at Segerstrom Center

Greer’s Girl, Kelley Moody gives us a glimpse into Segerstrom Center for the Arts’ annual season preview event featuring hits from the 2015 – 2016 Broadway Series in the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall. You can take a look here.

During this special evening, audiences were treated to exciting live performances from five of the season’s hit shows: Disney’s “The Lion King,” Disney’s “Newsies,” “The Sound of Music,” “The Illusionists” and Rodgers + Hammerstein’s “Cinderella.”
