ORANGE COUNTY PREMIERE OF “EVOLUTION,” BY TAIKO DRUMMING TROUPE KODO
02.05.19
The Philharmonic Society of Orange County presents the Orange County premiere of Evolution, a new production by world-renowned taiko drumming troupe Kodo, on Sunday, February 10, 7 p.m., at Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall, Segerstrom Center for the Arts.
Evolution is a program of large-scale works performing on a wide variety of drums with impeccable precision, from the Katsugi Daiko (or “portable taiko”) drums to timpani to the massive 660-pound o-daiko drums. The show also highlights dance, song and bamboo flute performances, and incorporates surprising visual effects.
Following its premiere in August 2016 at Suntory Hall in Tokyo as one of three Kodo 35th Anniversary Commemorative Concerts, Evolution toured extensively throughout Japan and Europe. The 2019 North American tour will be the first time this work is presented in the Americas.
The touring company of Evolution features 16 Kodo members: fifteen full and one junior. Within the company, there are four women, and two members born in the United States: Ryotaro Leo Ikenaga, a member since 2016 from Michigan, and Taiyo Onoda, a junior member since 2018 from California. Program repertoire below.
Ticket prices start at $28 and are available at the Philharmonic Society box office at 949.553.2422, online at www.PhilharmonicSociety.org, and at the Center box office at 714.556.2787.
A limited number of box seats are also available for purchase. Call for pricing and availability.
Segerstrom Center for the Arts, Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall, is at 615 Town Center Drive, Costa Mesa.

Nordstrom CLOTHING DONATION PROGRAM: NEW YEAR, FRESH START
02.05.19
Every year, billions of pounds of clothing ends up in landfills. Nordstrom wants to provide a more sustainable solution, so they’re launching a donation program that makes it easy to give used clothing and accessories a second life—while also supporting local nonprofit organizations.
You can donate your items by mail, or at Nordstrom Local in L.A. All donations will be directed to local nonprofits where they'll be sold to support community programs like job training and education.
They’ve partnered with Give Back Box* so you can reuse the box from your recent Nordstrom order to donate to local charities.
How it Works:
1. Open your Box
2. When you order Nordstrom, save the box your order came in.
3. Fill the box with any gently used clothing, accessories, and shoes you'd like to donate.
Print a prepaid shipping label from Givebackbox.com.
Close up your box, attach the prepaid label and drop it off at a UPS or USPS location.
