The 16th Annual OC Children’s Book Festival

Orange Coast College hosts the 16th annual Orange County Children's Book Festival on Sunday, Oct. 6 from 9:30 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Attendees will have a chance to meet with well-known authors and artists, including five-time NBA champion and two-time Olympic Gold Medalist Kobe Bryant, who will be promoting his new book "Legacy and the Queen," and reality television star Elena Gant, promoting her new book "Rox & Pax."
The festival brings 90 published authors, 12 studio illustrators and 60 literacy centered exhibitors to the Costa Mesa campus for a day of family fun.
Five stages will be located throughout campus, including a S.T.E.A.M stage highlighting space exploration. Noted astrophysicist David A. Aguilar will be on hand to share his experience working for NASA's New Horizons Mission special media team on the historic Pluto Flyby Mission.
There also will be Storyteller, Illustrator, Early Reader/Middle Grade/Teen Stage, and Animal and Nature stages. Exhibitors setting up shop at the festival include Orange County Public Libraries, PBS SoCal, Lakeshore Learning, and the Orange County Department of Education. There also will be train rides and bounce houses for kids.
Parking and attendance for the event is free, and multiple food vendors will be on-site, including Kona Shaved Ice, Wendy's Bacon Hot Dogs, and Sophia's Kitchen. More than 30,000 people are expected to attend. For more information visit kidsbookfestival.com

LA’s Top Chefs at 2019 Pier Del Sol

Special Olympics Southern California presents a unique culinary experience with LA's top chefs at the 2019 Pier Del Sol. This exciting event takes place Sunday, October 6 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Historic Santa Monica Pier and Pacific Park. It's a private backyard amusement park experience and one-of-a-kind fundraiser.
Guests can enjoy the VIP treatment and sample 35 of LA’s best food spots. Make sure to sample from this year’s 2019 Honorary Chef, Andreas Nieto of LA Prime. Andreas has been a third generation chef since the age of 14 and holds a special connection to Special Olympics.
Other restaurants to sample from include Angelini Osteria, The Arbour, El Cholo, Luxe, Maison Giraud, Sprinkles, and many more. The event also includes a variety of family-fun entertainment, such as music, arts and crafts, games, a silent auction, cupcake decorating, and much more..
