Disney Musicals in Schools 10th Anniversary at Segerstrom Center for the Arts
11.01.23
Segerstrom Center for the Arts proudly celebrates the 10th anniversary of the Disney Musicals in Schools program in collaboration with Disney Theatrical Group. This milestone marks ten years of empowering Orange County schools, offering them the expertise to create and sustain their own musical theater programs right on campus.
Through this program, schools not only learn the intricacies of producing performances but also cultivate a deep appreciation for the arts within the educational environment.
Disney Musicals in Schools has been instrumental in nurturing the artistic talents of students, unlocking their potential, and enhancing teamwork and communication skills. Students, through the magic of musical theater, have discovered new dimensions of self-expression and self-confidence, contributing significantly to their personal growth and academic achievements.
Talena Mara, Vice President of Education at Segerstrom Center for the Arts, shares, “The 10th Anniversary of Disney Musicals in Schools is an inspiring testament to the enduring power of the arts in education and how vital it is for each student to have regular access to the arts. We've witnessed tremendous transformations in the lives of countless students who have participated in this program.
This significant occasion not only commemorates a decade of remarkable success but also underscores the unwavering commitment of the Disney Theatrical Group, Segerstrom Center for the Arts, educators, parents, and community partners who have wholeheartedly supported the program’s growth and development. As we reflect on the achievements of the past ten years, we also look forward with excitement to the future of Disney Musicals in Schools, continuing to inspire young hearts and minds and fostering a lifelong love for the performing arts.”
Segerstrom Center is thrilled that a majority of Orange County schools served by this program since 2014 are carrying forward the tradition of musical theater on their campus. These include a host of schools enriching their educational journey through the magic of theater and the arts.
The Disney Musicals in Schools 2023-24 season commenced on Thursday, September 7th, featuring an orientation inclusive of a hands-on theater-making experience with teaching artists, a reveal of the school’s selected shows, and an overview of the excitement that awaits them throughout this incredible journey. Residencies will kick off in October and culminate with a Student Share Celebration on Tuesday, March 26, 2024.
This year’s selected schools for the program include Commonwealth Elementary (Fullerton), Guin Foss Elementary (Tustin), Heroes Elementary (Santa Ana), Killybrooke Elementary (Costa Mesa), and Linda Vista Magnet (Mission Viejo).
