Grand Reopening of Lido Theater: A Celebration of Art Deco Glamour with a Free Sugar Ray Concert
10.02.24
The iconic Lido Theater in Newport Beach is set to reopen on Saturday, Oct. 5, with an exciting celebration from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. The day will feature tours, a DJ, silent movies, food, a ribbon-cutting ceremony, and will culminate with a live performance by Newport Beach natives, Sugar Ray, at 7 p.m.
Originally opened in 1939, the Lido Theater is one of Southern California’s oldest single-screen theaters. After a meticulous five-year restoration by owner Fritz Duda Company, the theater now blends modern entertainment amenities with classic Art Deco design from Hollywood's Golden Age.
Newport Beach native, movie producer, and director Joseph McGinty “McG” Nichol, along with his company River Jetty Restaurant Group (RJRG), is the new operator of The Lido Theater and will welcome the community to experience its beauty. McG, who was friends and high school classmates with the original members of Sugar Ray, produced many of their early hits and music videos.
